In the US, You Make Me Wanna spent 7 weeks at number 2 stuck behind Elton John's Candle In The Wind 97.
No problems over here as it debuts at number 1 selling nearly 110,000 copies last week.

Chart show details not blurred out during the closing titles.
Let's hope nobody is confused 27 years later.

OTT with a good song (The lead singers earpiece looked weird)
Ian Brown with a performance that got comments on Points Of View
Catatonia were good 1998
Robbie Williams by popular demand maybe because no one else can get a look in

As much as I like Oasis, All Around The World goes on way way too long...
That one doesn't know when to end whereas D'ya Know What I Mean took forever to get going

It seems the Producers resented having to play Bamboo when it was Number 2.
Play it at the end, don't show any of the video (Just the TOTP logo) and don't even play the chorus.
Then 2 shows later, when it's going down, it gets the rundown track.
A few shows earlier they shown the videos for U2 and Warren G and they weren't in the Top 10

Possibly not co-incidentally, this was a week when Chris Cowie was away and someone else was substituting for him, who possibly didn't share Chris's reluctance to showing videos.

You'd think whoever was substituting would keep to the same format, as it wasn't their show really?

Billie Joe Armstrong wrote Good Riddance 5 years previously after splitting up with a girlfriend
I assume the split wasn't very amicable !
Good Riddance the song used in the clip show at the end of Seinfeld’s run, will always remind me of that

Well, that's January 1998 done and dusted!
Song of edition 1 - Oasis - All Around The World (though sweaty LG's live vocal was a bit ropey!)
Song of edition 2 - Radiohead - No Surprises.
Song of edition 3 - Catatonia - Mulder And Scully.
Shonky Cover of the night - Clock - That's The Way I Like It.
I liked Jane's quick chat to All Saints about them finally getting to no. 1, but I'm starting to feel like I never ever want to hear Never Ever again!
Hearing Chumbawamba performing their anti-new labour song Amnesia, I'm guessing it was at the up coming Brits that they had their altercation with John Prescott.
So they finally stopped blurring the radio 1 chart time /day in the credits. I expect the others will still be blurred when shown in BBC Four.

Tonight’s episodes are 6, 13 and 20 February 1998
13 February features a song by a band that I did not expect to ever feature on TOTP
I Think I’m In Love by Spiritualized

Gettin Jiggy With It contains 2 prominent samples
The melody is He's The Greatest Dancer by Sister Sledge
In the chorus the " na na na na na na na" is sampled from Sang and Dance by US funk group The Bar Kays from 1970

The Stones appeared on the very first Pops on 1st January 1964 singing I Wanna Be Your Man. That edition is wiped.
Mick Jagger and the Stones were last in the Pops studio on the 22nd April 1971. That edition is wiped as well.

Aqua are yet to make their BBC4 debut but here they are with their 2nd number 1 on Eden.
Doctor Jones sold 102,000 compared to Barbie Girl's debut of 182,000.
Aqua were trailing Usher all week and only pulled ahead on Saturday, the last day of the chart week,
Saturday was also the day that Never Ever finally topped a million sales.
Teletubbies Say Eh-Oh will be the next song to cross a million sales.

Doctor Jones increased its sales to 117,000 for 2nd and final week at number 1.
If I told you that number 1 on the album chart this week was the soundtrack to Titanic, I think you can guess what will be number 1 on the singles chart on the next show !!

Le Disc Jockey by Encore at number 12 was basically a reworking of Encore Une Fois.
"Encore" was the singer on the original - Sabine Ohmes
